SDCS Family Camping Weekend at Bowleys Scout Camp

22-24th August 2014

Bring along your camping gear and join us for a weekend of fun!

SDCS Annual Residential weekend

Who can go? All deaf or hearing impaired children aged between 8-16 and you can bring 1 friend or 1 sibling aged 8-16

Who else will be there? Paul Oddie, Gemma Jones and Jane Finnigan from Audiology and Jane Heath and Sarah Hewitt from the teachers. All of us are CRB checked through our work and separately through the NDCS. During the weekend Emma Sumner from the NDCS and Claire Johnson from a deaf charity Genie networks will be coming to visit for the day and help on the Saturday.

When is it? Friday 5th to Sunday 7th April.

How much does it cost? Cost £7.50 per child including food and activities.

Where is it? It is in Middleton in Greater Manchester North Scouting HQ. Monkshill, 380 Rochdale Road, Middleton, M24 2ST. Tel: 0161 643 4004

How do we get there? Meet at Pendleton Gateway 6:30pm on Friday and we will go in cars in convoy. If you don't have transport we will hopefully have enough cars to get everyone there. On the way home Sunday, we hope that parents can pick their children up from the Scout HQ at 12:00pm again if this is a problem let me know.

What will we be doing? Friday PM There will be games and pizza on night as we get to know our new friends.
Saturday AM We will visit the local college where you can use the sports facilities and a bouncy castle.
Saturday PM Will be a Greek theme with Greek food but with a selection to suit all tastes. We hope to have a night walk if weather permits.

Sunday AM Breakfast and goodbyes What do we need to bring? Enough clothes to last the weekend, a water proof coat (just in case) and a pair of trainers or pumps for the sports facilities (there is no swimming pool ). You also need a sleeping bag and pillow.

Where will I sleep? There are bunk rooms of boys and girls dorms. We will allocate you in your pairs or together with friends of similar age ranges when we know the numbers.

Info for Parents? We see the opportunity for our kids to go away with other children who are similarly deaf or hearing impaired as an important and valuable experience. For friends and siblings to meet and get to know other children who are deaf or wear hearing aids can open them up to different experiences. We would like as many children as possible to share this so if there is anything that you are unsure about or an issue that you think may prevent them from attending please contact Paul Oddie or Jane Heath and they will try to work something out.
